American Comedian Dave Chappelle attacked at Netflix show

American comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked on stage during a comedy show in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening, the California police said.

The comedian was attending the "Netflix Is A Joke" festival, which was held at the Hollywood Bowl, when a man from the audience climbed on stage and hit him with an attempt to knock him to the ground, according to a video clip of the incident circulated on social media.

The motive behind the attack was not immediately known. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the incident and said the attacker was carrying a fake pistol and a knife. It was not immediately clear if he tried to use the knife on the comedian, who was unharmed.

Police said the 23-year-old suspect was charged with "assault with a deadly weapon", with a $30,000 bond.

Videos showed the attacker being carried on a stretcher and then to hospital for treatment, according to a police spokeswoman.

BuzzFeed reporter Brianna Sacks, who was present at the show, said the attacker was attacked by at least 10 people after he beat up Dave Chappelle.

Last October, Netflix found itself at the center of a debate over free speech in the United

States after the broadcast of Dave Chappelle's show "The Closer," in which the stand-up comedy star responded to criticism of him for mocking transgender people
